Bezienswaardigheden / tips Central Harbor 2025:

1) Central Harbor: Center Harbor is een klein stadje en ligt aan de noordkant van Lake Winnipesaukee en Squam Lake. Center Harbor is beperkt toeristisch. Het trekt vooral regionale bezoekers aan die van watersport en de natuur komen genieten. Het is rustig en charmant, maar er is geen massa toerisme. De toeristen die hier komen verblijven in hotels aan het meer en maken gebruik van de vele wateractiviteiten die zijn toegestaan buiten het strand. Center Harbor kan dus dienen als uitvalsbasis voor toeristen die het meer en de omgeving willen verkennen, zonder dat ze de Town Beach gebruiken. Het dorp is vrij rustig in vergelijking met de bekende stadjes Weirs Beach en Wolfeboro wat het aantrekkelijk maakt voor rustzoekers, natuurliefhebbers en watersporters. Het is geen plek vol toeristische attracties, maar de combinatie van het meer, bossen en wildlife. 

2) Town Beach: De Town Beach is niet toegankelijk voor toeristen, de toegang is beperkt tot mensen die in de gemeente wonen en hun gasten. Niet ingezeten mogen hier dus niet zwemmen of zonnen. Ondanks het strand niet toegankelijk is voor toeristen kun je hier wel kajakken, vissen of met een boot het meer opgaan. Het feit dat toeristen niet op de Town Beach mogen, sluit toerisme niet uit. 

3) Parkeren: Parkeren en toegang zijn streng gereguleerd; overtreding kan een boete opleveren.

4) Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary: Het Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary is een beschermd natuurgebied gelegen in Center Harbor. Het terrein is ongeveer 47 acre groot. Het bestaat uit een gemengd bos, met vooral veel witte dennen (“white pines”) bij de ingang, die overgaan in een gemengd bos en noordelijke loof/naald-bossen. De Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary Trail Loop is ongeveer 1,9 km (1.2 mijl) lang. Gemiddelde wandeltijd ongeveer 25–30 minuten. De trail is makkelijk met kleine hoogteverschillen. Je kunt het combineren met een aangrenzend natuurgebied. Direct naast Proctor Sanctuary ligt een groter bosgebied, Center Harbor Woods van circa 225 acre en is een beschermd bosgebied.

1) Central Harbor: Center Harbor is a small town located on the north shore of Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake. Center Harbor has limited tourism. It primarily attracts local visitors who enjoy water sports and nature. It's quiet and charming, but there's no mass tourism. Tourists who come here stay in lakeside hotels and enjoy the many water activities allowed outside of the beach. Center Harbor can serve as a base for tourists who want to explore the lake and surrounding area without using Town Beach. The village is relatively quiet compared to the more popular towns of Weirs Beach and Wolfeboro, making it attractive to those seeking peace and quiet, nature lovers, and water sports enthusiasts. It's not a place full of tourist attractions, but rather a place with a combination of lake, forests, and wildlife.

2) Town Beach: Town Beach is not accessible to tourists; access is restricted to residents of the town and their guests. Non-residents are not allowed to swim or sunbathe here. Although the beach is not accessible to tourists, you can still kayak, fish, or take a boat out onto the lake. The fact that tourists are not allowed on Town Beach does not preclude tourism.

3) Parking: Parking and access are strictly regulated; violations may result in a fine. 

4) Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary: The Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected natural area located in Center Harbor. The site is approximately 47 acres. It consists of a mixed forest, with mainly white pines at the entrance, which transition into a mixed forest and northern deciduous/coniferous forests. The Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary Trail Loop is approximately 1.2 miles (1.9 km). Average hiking time is about 25–30 minutes. The trail is easy with small elevation changes. You can combine it with an adjacent nature reserve. Right next to Proctor Sanctuary is a larger forested area, Center Harbor Woods, which is approximately 225 acres and is a protected forest area. 





Center Harbor is klein en rustig en staat bekend om zijn ligging aan het water, toegang tot meren en stranden en de rustige natuurlijke omgeving. Het heeft ook een klein historisch gedeelte en bevat gebouwen en monumenten uit de 19e en vroege 20e eeuw. 

Center Harbor is small and quiet and is known for its waterfront location, access to lakes and beaches, and tranquil natural surroundings. It also has a small historical section and contains buildings and monuments from the 19th and early 20th centuries.





De Nichols Memorial Library is de openbare bibliotheek van Center Harbor en opgericht in 1910 in de neoklassiek stijl. Het gebouw is onderdeel van het historisch district. Voor de bibliotheek staat een gedenkteken met bronzen plaquettes van namen die herdenken de soldaten en zeelieden uit Central Harbor die dienden in de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog en de twee Wereldoorlogen. 

The Nichols Memorial Library is Center Harbor's public library, built in 1910 in the neoclassical style. The building is part of the historic district. In front of the library stands a memorial with bronze plaques bearing names commemorating the soldiers and sailors from Central Harbor who served in the American Civil War and both World Wars.





De gazebo draagt bij aan het karakter van Center Harbor als charmant “lake town” — rustiek, gemoedelijk, met historische en sociale waarde.

Voor bewoners en bezoekers is het een gastvrije plek om samen te komen — ’s avonds of op zomerse dagen — waar muziek, waterzicht, historie en dorpsgevoel samenkomen (zie film).

For residents and visitors, it is a welcoming place to gather — in the evenings or on summer days — where music, water views, history, and village atmosphere come together (see film).







Central Harbor heeft een eigen strand. De Town Beach is géén openbaar strand voor iedereen: hij is bedoeld voor bewoners van Center Harbor en van het naburige Moultonborough en hun gasten.

Central Harbor has its own beach. Town Beach isn't a public beach for everyone: it's intended for residents of Center Harbor and neighboring Moultonborough, and their guests. 





Midden 1800’s was Center Harbor een belangrijk knooppunt voor stoomschepen op Lake Winnipesaukee. De haven/dokken maakten het mogelijk dat stoomschepen aanlegden, en reizigers en goederen via Center Harbor vervoerd werden. Tegenwoordig is de haven belangrijk voor recreatie boten maar ook de M/S Mount Washington meert hier tijdens het zomerseizoen aan.

n the mid-1800s, Center Harbor was a major hub for steamships on Lake Winnipesaukee. The harbor and docks allowed steamships to dock and passengers and goods to be transported through Center Harbor. Today, the harbor is important for recreational boats, and the M/S Mount Washington also docks here during the summer season.
