Geschiedenis van Idaho:
Toen er ongeveer 14.000 jaar geleden een eind kwam aan de Grote IJstijd, trokken rondzervende jagers het grondgebied van het huidige Idaho binnen, in het spoor van de kudden die hun voornaamste voedselbron vormden. Er zijn hier kampen gevonden van circa 13.000 jaar oud. De leden van de Lewis and Clark Expedition van 1805 zijn vermoedelijk de eerste moderne Europeanen die doordrongen tot dit gebied, waar toen Indianenstammen als de Kutenai, de Nez Perce, de Coeur d'Alene, de Shoshone en de Bannock leefden. In 1809 stichtte David Thompson in opdracht van de North-West Company de eerste handelspost in Idaho, aan de oever van Lake Pend Oreille. De kolonisatie van Idaho door blanken begon pas goed in 1860, toen een groep mormonen uit Utah naar het noorden trok. Een reeks goudvondsten lokte dat jaar ook vele goudzoekers naar het noorden van de staat en later werd er in Idaho ook lood en zink ontdekt. In 1890 trad Idaho als drieënveertigste staat toe tot de Verenigde Staten.

History of Idaho:
When the Great Ice Age ended about 14,000 years ago, roaming hunters invaded present-day Idaho, following the herds that were their primary source of food. Camps have been found here that are approximately 13,000 years old. The members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1805 are believed to be the first modern Europeans that passed through this area, which was then home to Indian tribes such as the Kutenai, the Nez Perce, the Coeur d'Alene, the Shoshone, and the Bannock. In 1809, David Thompson, on behalf of the North-West Company, established the first trading post in Idaho, on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille. The white colonization of Idaho didn't get off to a good start until 1860, when a group of Mormons moved north from Utah. A series of gold discoveries that year also attracted many prospectors to the north of the state, were they also discovered lead and zinc in Idaho later. In 1890, Idaho joined the United States as the forty-third state.
