Bezienswaardigheden / tips Idaho Falls 2025:

1) Idaho Falls: De op drie na grootste stad van Idaho heeft een interessante samenstelling van de arbeidsbevolking: bijna 8000 van de in totaal 64.000 inwoners is werkzaam in de kerncentrales van het Idaho National Laboratory, de rest houdt zich overwegend bezig met handel en de verwerking van landbouwproducten. Dit is duidelijk een lucratieve bezigheid, want de stad en de aangrenzende plaatsen groeien en Idaho Falls kan zich musea, theaters, orkesten en een groot honkbalstadion permitteren. De natuurlijke watervallen van de Snake River, die dwars door de stad stroomt, zijn door de stuwen die zijn aangebracht ten behoeve van de energiewinning heel kalm geworden. Een groenstreek langs de rivier nodigt uit tot verkenning; erachter liggen diverse hotels. Voor reizigers die onderweg zijn naar bijvoorbeeld het Yellowstone National Park of the Grand Teton zijn er talloze onderkomens beschikbaar, die meestal voordeliger zijn dan in de nationale parken (afstand Idaho Falls - West Yellowstone 172 km, Idaho Falls - Jackson 142 km). Aan de overkant van de Snake River ligt het oudste deel van de stad met huizen uit de late 19e en de vroege 20e eeuw. Idaho Falls is een goede tussenstop en uitvalsbasis, op de watervallen na heeft de stad zelf heeft niet heel veel te bieden.

2) LDS Temple: De enorme witte toren met de gouden engel erop die bij de mormonentempel hoort, is al vanuit de verte zichtbaar. In het bezoekerscentrum kun je alles te weten komen over het genealogisch onderzoek door de mormonen. (1000 Memorial Drive). 

3) Museum of Idaho: Omdat de stad toeristen verder niet veel te bieden heeft, probeert men van het Museum of Idaho een aantrekkelijke bestemming te maken. Het museum is de afgelopen jaren aanzienelijk uitgebreid en tracht bezoekers te lokken met spectaculaire wisselexposities. Zo werden originele voorwerpen uit de Titanic getoond en werd aandacht besteed aan dinosauruseieren en baby's. 

4) Grand Teton Mall: Macy's, Sears en Old Navy zijn in de grootste mall van Idaho Falls te vinden, het is dus vooral een plek om kleding te kopen, maar er zijn ook vier restaurants waar je kunt lunchen.

1) Idaho Falls: Idaho's fourth-largest city has an interesting labor force composition: Nearly 8,000 of the total 64,000 population are employed at the nuclear power plants of the Idaho National Laboratory, the rest are mainly engaged in trading and processing agricultural products. This is clearly a lucrative business, as the city and neighboring towns are growing and Idaho Falls can afford museums, theaters, orchestras, and a large baseball stadium. The natural waterfalls of the Snake River, which flows right through the city, have become very calm due to the weirs built for energy production. A green area along the river invites you to explore; behind it are several hotels. For travelers underway, for example, Yellowstone National Park or the Grand Teton, there are numerous accommodations available, which are usually cheaper than in the national parks (distance Idaho Falls - West Yellowstone 172 km, Idaho Falls - Jackson 142 km). Across the Snake River lies the oldest part of town with houses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Idaho Falls is a good stopover and base, except for the falls, the city itself doesn't have much to offer. 

2) LDS Temple: The huge white tower with the golden angel on top that belongs to the Mormon Temple is visible from afar. You can learn all about Mormon genealogy research at the visitor center. (1000 Memorial Drive). 

3) Museum of Idaho: Because the city doesn't have much to offer to tourists, they are trying to make the Museum of Idaho an attractive destination. The museum has expanded considerably in recent years and tries to attract visitors with spectacular temporary exhibitions. For example, original objects from the Titanic were shown and attention was paid to dinosaur eggs and babies. 

4) Grand Teton Mall: Macy's, Sears and Old Navy are located in the largest mall in Idaho Falls, so it's mainly a place to buy clothes, but there are also four restaurants where you can have lunch. 
     
                                                                


De oorsprong van Idaho Falls begon met een brug, de Taylor Bridge, door een slimme handelaar in 1865 gebouwd, zodat goudzoekers uit de omgeving van Salt Lake City op weg naar de mijnen van Centraal-Idaho hier de rivier konden oversteken. In 1880 werd de nederzetting uitgebreid met een treinstation, wat meer tot meer groei leidde.

The origins of Idaho Falls began with a bridge, the Taylor Bridge, built in 1865 by a smart merchant to allow prospectors from the Salt Lake City area to cross the river on their way to the mines of Central Idaho. In 1880 the settlement was expanded with a train station, which led to more growth. 





In het begin heette het plaatsje overigens Eagle Rock, omdat hier zeearenden nestelden. Maar projectontwikkelaars die het potentieel van de stad met zijn vruchtbare omgeving en goede watervoorziening inzagen, veranderden de naam in Idaho Falls.  

In the beginning, the town was called Eagle Rock, because sea eagles nested here. But property developers, recognizing the city's potential with its fertile environment and good water supply, changed the name to Idaho Falls. 





Idaho Falls, gelegen aan de Snake River, met in het oosten de Grand Tetons Mountains, is een landbouwstad met veel mormoonse inwoners. (zie film).

De stad wordt gedomineerd door de mormoonse tempel. Er is een uitgestrekt groengebied, waar mensen kunnen joggen en skaten.

The city is dominated by the Mormon Temple. There is an extensive green area, where people can jog and skate. 





Hoewel Idaho Falls, waar de stad zijn naam aan dankt, is ingedamd, biedt de waterval nog steeds een schilderachtige aanblik in de parkachtige omgeving. 

Although Idaho Falls, from which the city gets its name, has been dammed up, the waterfall still offers a picturesque sight in its park-like setting.
