Bezienswaardigheden / tips Ipswich 2025:

1) Ipswich: Ipswich is een plaats langs de rivier de Ipswich, 28 mijl (45 km) ten noordoosten van Boston. Gevestigd in 1633 als Agawam, werd het opgenomen in 1634 en hernoemd naar Ipswich in England. Kantklossen, de eerste industrie van de stad, werd uitgevoerd op machines die naar de Amerikaanse koloniën werden gesmokkeld ondanks de Britse exportwetten. Ipswich was ook de thuisbasis van verschillende vooraanstaande schrijvers uit de koloniale periode, waaronder Nathaniel Ward en de dichteres Anne Bradstreet. Het moderne Ipswich heeft zich ontwikkeld als een zomerresort dat bekend staat om zijn zeevruchten (de beroemde Ipswich-mossel). Er zijn meer dan 50 koloniale huizen bewaard gebleven, met name het John Whipple House uit 1640. Ipswich is een leuke plaats om te bezoeken, zeker als je Cape Ann bezoekt waar Ipswich een onderdeel van is. Ipswich is het hele jaar door een leuke plek om te bezoeken, maar het is vooral mooi in de herfst.

3) Castle Hill on the Crane Estate: Castle Hill is een herenhuis in Ipswich, dat in 1928 werd voltooid als zomerhuis voor de heer en mevrouw Richard Teller Crane, Jr.  Het landgoed omvat het historische herenhuis, 21 bijgebouwen en landschappen met uitzicht op de Ipswich Bay aan de kust van Route 1, ten noorden van Boston. De naam is afgeleid van een voorgebergte in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, van waaruit veel vroege kolonisten van de Massachusetts Bay Colony immigreerden. In 1945 schonk de familie Crane een groot deel van hun privéstrand en duinen aan The Trustees of Reservations, een particuliere, non-profit organisatie voor landbehoud en historisch behoud. Castle Hill was ook decor van vele films waaronder The Witches of Eastwick, Flowers in the Attic, The Next Karate Kid, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past en The Equalizer. Een entree ticket kost $ 10,00 per volwassenen en het is aan te raden om tickets online te bestellen. 

4) Crane Beach: Crane Beach is een beschermd en recreatiegebied, direct ten noorden van Cape Ann. Het bestaat uit een 6 km zandstrand, duinen en een dennenbos en is eigendom van en wordt onderhouden door The Trustees of Reservations. Het bevat 8,8 km aan wandelpaden door de duinen en het bos, deze zijn toegankelijk vanaf het strand. Crane Beach is het hele jaar door geopend en is gratis voor inwoners van Ipswich. Niet-ingezetenen moeten een vergoeding betalen om binnen te komen. De entree prijzen zijn vrij hoog, als toerist betaal je $ 35,00 per auto op een door de weekse dag. In het weekend is het $ 40,00. 

5) Ipswich Museum: Ipswich Museum is een museum voor cultuur, geschiedenis en natuurlijk erfgoed, gevestigd aan High Street in Ipswich. Bezoekers kunnen een kijkje nemen in het leven van de vroege inwoners van Ipswich. Het museum is van mei tot en met oktober geopend voor rondleidingen.

1) Ipswich: Ipswich is a town along the Ipswich River, 28 miles (45 km) northeast of Boston. Established in 1633 as Agawam, it was incorporated in 1634 and renamed Ipswich in England. Lacemaking, the town’s first industry, was carried out on machines that were smuggled to the American colonies despite British export laws. Ipswich was also home to several prominent colonial writers, including Nathaniel Ward and the poet Anne Bradstreet. Modern Ipswich has developed as a summer resort known for its seafood (the famous Ipswich clam). More than 50 colonial houses have been preserved, especially the John Whipple House from 1640. Ipswich is a nice place to visit, especially if you visit Cape Ann of which Ipswich is part of. Ipswich is a lovely place to visit all year round, but it is especially beautiful in autumn.

2) Historic Walking Tours: Many of the country's oldest houses are located here in Ipswich. You can download a map of these locations and take a historical walking tour of the area. 

3) Castle Hill on the Crane Estate: Castle Hill is a mansion in Ipswich, completed in 1928 as a summer home for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Teller Crane, Jr. The estate includes the historic mansion, 21 outbuildings and landscapes overlooking Ipswich Bay on the coast of Route 1, north of Boston. The name is derived from a promontory in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, from which many early settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony immigrated. In 1945, the Crane family donated a large portion of their private beach and dunes to The Trustees of Reservations, a private, nonprofit land preservation and historic preservation organization. Castle Hill has also been the setting for many films including The Witches of Eastwick, Flowers in the Attic, The Next Karate Kid, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and The Equalizer. Admission is $10.00 per adult and it is recommended to book tickets online.

4) Crane Beach: Crane Beach is a conservation and recreational area located directly north of Cape Ann. It consists of a four-mile (6 km) stretch of sandy beach, dunes, and a pine forest and is owned and maintained by The Trustees of Reservations. It has 5.5 miles (8.8 km)  of walking trails through the dunes and forest, which are accessible from the beach. Crane Beach is open year round and is free for Ipswich residents. Non-residents must pay a fee to enter. The entrance fees are quite high, as a tourist you pay $35.00 per vehicle on a weekday. On the weekend it is $40.00. 

5) Ipswich Museum: Ipswich Museum is a museum of culture, history and natural heritage located on the High Street in Ipswich. Visitors can get a glimpse into the lives of Ipswich's early residents. The museum is open for guided tours from May to October.

One of the best ways to experience Ipswich is on foot, strolling through the historic center and along the banks of the River Ipswich, where a path runs along it.





In het hart van de stad komen vier historische wijken samen. Dit zijn Meetinghouse Green, South Green, High Street en East End. Hier staan gebouwen uit de jaren 1600 tot 1800.

Het Ipswich Visitor Center, gevestigd in het 1820 Hall-Haskell House, ligt in het hart van de stad aan de Center Green, in een van de verschillende historische wijken van Ipswich. Het Hall Haskell House opereert van de lente tot de herfst als een kunstgalerie en welkomstcentrum, met een overvloed aan kaarten en brochures. 

The Ipswich Visitor Center, housed in the 1820 Hall-Haskell House, is located in the heart of the town on the Center Green, in one of Ipswich's several historic districts. The Hall Haskell House operates as an art gallery and welcome center from spring through fall, with an abundance of maps and brochures.





De Riverwalk Pedestrian Bridge loopt over de Ipswich rivier waar verschillende wandelpaden zijn uitgezet (zie film).
