Bezienswaardigheden / tips Meredith 2025:

1) Meredith: Meredith ligt in het merengebied van de staat en dient als een belangrijke badplaats. Meredith ligt langs de oevers van Lake Winnipesaukee bij de nabijgelegen White Mountains. Het is de thuisbasis van het natuurgebied Stonedam Island en de Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, en het dient als een van de aanloophavens voor de MS Mount Washington. De economie was oorspronkelijk industrieel (zagen, graanmolens) en is geleidelijk overgegaan naar toerisme en recreatie. Tegenwoordig biedt Meredith veel mogelijkheden voor recreatie, ontspanning en plezier voor het hele gezin. De stad staat bekend om zijn charme en het uitzicht op de natuurlijke schoonheid van het meer. 

2) Lake Winnipesaukee: Het grote meer naast (eerst Meredith Bay die overloopt in Lake Winnipesaukee) Meredith is een van de meest iconische bezienswaardigheden. Je kunt boottochten maken (bijv. met de M/S Mount Washington) voor panoramische uitzichten en je kunt hier diverse watersporten beoefenen zoals kajakken, varen en zwemmen.

3) Hesky Park: Hesky Park ligt aan de oever van Meredith Bay. Het was vroeger de plek van een stoombootlanding (“Dover Point”) volgens de Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society. Vandaag de dag is het een groen park en een ideaal startpunt voor kajakken, varen of een boottocht op Lake Winnipesaukee. Er staat ook een POW/MIA monument "The Rock" een herinnering en bewustzijn voor alle Amerikaanse militairen die gevangen zijn gehouden (POW) of vermist (MIA).

4) Meredith Historical Society & Museum: De Historical Society wil de geschiedenis van Meredith behouden, en dit is te zien in dit museum. Ze werken met vrijwilligers, geven lezingen en ondersteunen historisch onderzoek.Je kunt hier antieke voorwerpen zoals oude kleding, muziek instrumenten en gebruiksartikelen uit de 19e en 20e eeuw bezichtigen. De entree is gratis maar giften zijn meer dan welkom.

5) Waukewan Trail: De Waukewan Trail bestaat uit ongeveer aan 3 miles aan gemarkeerde wandelpaden. De paden zijn ingedeeld in vier trails, white, Red, Blue en Yellow. De trails lopen door bossen, velden en langs de oude reservoir van Meredith dat vroeger een watervoorziening was. Toegang tot de trailhead ligt aan Parade Road (Route 106) in Meredith. De White Trail (0,6 km / 0,4 mijl) is een makkelijk pad en bevat een boardwalk dat door een moerassig gebied loopt. De Red Trail (0,6 mijl / 1 km) is iets uitdagender, het is een smal pad met ondstakels zoals stenen en wortels.De Blue Trail (1,1 mijl / 1,7 km) is een zware trail met steilere stukken en rotsachtige paden. Als laatste de Yellow Trail (1 mijl / 1,6 km) heeft kleineren hellingen, bos en een open veld met uitzicht op Lake Waukewan. 

6) Mill Falls Marketplace: Bezoek de Mill Falls Marketplace. Het is een charmant winkel- en eetcomplex, met onder andere brick-paden, bloementuinen, en een waterval van ongeveer 40 voet (± 12 meter). De locatie is historisch: het gebouw was vroeger een textielfabriek (Meredith Village Cotton Company), en stamt uit circa 1820. Vandaag de dag zijn ongeveer 11 winkels in de Marketplace. Deze winkels variëren van mode en cadeaus tot gespecialiseerde lokale winkels.

7) Hermit Woods Winery & Deli: Drink een heerlijk wijntje bij de Hermit Woods Winery & Deli op 72 Main Street. Hermit Woods is opgericht door drie vrienden: Ze deelden een passie voor fietsen, mountainbiken en het maken van eigen dranken (bier, mede, fruitwijn) tijdens hun vrije tijd. Ze werken met lokaal fruit en boeren in de regio.Het menu bestaat onder andere uit panini’s, flatbreads, en kaas-planken. Er is een volwaardige chef-kok die lokale ingrediënten gebruikt om gerechten te maken die goed passen bij hun wijnen. Ze kunnen ook wijn combineren met maaltijden — de bediening helpt bij wijn-pairing. Voor wie niet van wijn houdt: er is ook craftbier te verkrijgen.

8) Boottochten op Lake Winnipesaukee: Boek een boottocht vanuit Meredith. Diverse maatschappijen bieden verschillende tours aan. De Scenic Cruise met MS Mount Washington en de Cocktail Cruises zijn het meest favoriet. De MS Mount Washington is een klassieke, grote rondvaartboot. Deze cruise is iconisch en biedt mooie uitzichten op Lake Winnipesaukee en de eilanden. De Cocktail Cruise met de Winnipesaukee heeft een bar met cocktails, wijn, en lokaal bier + lichte snacks en vaart rond in de Meredith Bay en de eilanden van West-Winnipesaukee.

1) Meredith: Located in the state's Lakes Region, Meredith serves as a major resort town. Meredith is nestled along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee near the nearby White Mountains. It is home to Stonedam Island Nature Reserve, the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, and serves as one of the ports of call for the MS Mount Washington. Originally industrial (sawmilling, gristmilling), the economy gradually transitioned to tourism and recreation. Today, Meredith offers many opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and family fun. The town is known for its charm and views of the lake's natural beauty.  

2) Lake Winnipesaukee: The large lake next to (formerly Meredith Bay which flows into Lake Winnipesaukee) Meredith is one of the most iconic sights. Boat tours (e.g. with the M/S Mount Washington) offer panoramic views and a variety of water sports such as kayaking, boating, and swimming.

3) Hesky Park: Hesky Park is located on the shore of Meredith Bay. It was once the site of a steamboat landing ("Dover Point"), according to the Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society. Today, it's a green park and an ideal starting point for kayaking, boating, or a boat tour on Lake Winnipesaukee. There is also a POW/MIA monument, "The Rock," a memorial and reminder for all American servicemen who were held prisoner (POW) or missing in action (MIA).

4) Meredith Historical Society & Museum: The Historical Society aims to preserve Meredith's history, and this can be seen in this museum. They employ volunteers, give lectures, and support historical research. You can view antiques such as clothing, musical instruments, and household items from the 19th and 20th centuries. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. 

5) Waukewan Trail: The Waukewan Trail consists of approximately 3 miles of marked trails. The trails are divided into four sections: White, Red, Blue, and Yellow. The trails pass through woods, fields, and along the old Meredith Reservoir, which served as a water supply. Access to the trailhead is located off Parade Road (Route 106) in Meredith.The White Trail (0.4 miles / 0,6 km) is an easy trail and includes a boardwalk that passes through a swampy area. The Red Trail (0.6 miles / 1 km) is a bit more challenging; it is a narrow path with obstacles such as rocks and roots. The Blue Trail (1.1 miles / 1,7 km) is a more difficult trail with steeper sections and rocky paths. Finally, the Yellow Trail (1 mile / 1,6 km) has minor inclines, woods, and an open field with a view of Lake Waukewan.

6) Mill Falls Marketplace: Visit the Mill Falls Marketplace. It's a charming shopping and dining complex featuring brick walkways, flower gardens, and a 40-foot waterfall. The location is historic; the building was once a textile mill (Meredith Village Cotton Company), dating back to approximately 1820. Today, the Marketplace houses approximately 11 shops. These shops range from fashion and gifts to specialty local stores.

7) Hermit Woods Winery & Deli: Enjoy a glass of wine at Hermit Woods Winery & Deli, located at 72 Main Street. Hermit Woods was founded by three friends who shared a passion for cycling, mountain biking, and crafting their own beverages (beer, mead, fruit wine) in their free time. They utilize local fruits and farmers in the region. The menu includes paninis, flatbreads, and cheese boards. They have a full-service chef who uses locally sourced ingredients to create dishes that pair beautifully with their wines. They also offer wine pairing — the waitstaff will assist with wine pairing. For those who don't like wine, they also have craft beer available.

8) Boat trips on Lake Winnipesaukee: Book a boat tour from Meredith. Several companies offer different tours. The MS Mount Washington Scenic Cruise and the Cocktail Cruises are the most popular. The MS Mount Washington is a classic, large tour boat. This cruise is iconic and offers beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee and its islands. The Winnipesaukee Cocktail Cruise has a bar with cocktails, wine, and local beer plus light snacks and explores Meredith Bay and the islands of western Winnipesaukee.

In Meredith (voornamelijk in Main Street) vind je diverse boetieks, kunstgalerijen, antiek en vele cadeauwinkels. Ook kun je hier lekker buiten zitten op een terras en genieten van de prachtige omgeving.

Meredith heeft het karakter van een meer-seizoenen toeristische bestemming (“resort town”) en is tevens een woonplaats voor permanente bewoners.

Meredith heeft ook een groot aanbod van hotels waaronder het prachtige Chase House at Mill Falls (hier op de foto). De Chase House werd gebouwd in 1997-1998. Het is ontworpen in traditionele New England-stijl. De bouw van Chase House kwam voort uit het plan om van Meredith een toeristische bestemming te maken.

Hesky Park is een stadspark in Meredith. Hesky Park werd gedoneerd aan de stad door Egon Hesky (eigenaar van de linnennijverheid), nadat de Route 3 werd aangelegd (rond 1948). Er zijn wandelpaden langs de waterkant, picknickplekken, en veel groen om te relaxen. Hesky Park wordt ook gebruikt voor gemeenschapsevenementen bijvoorbeeld concerten in de zomer.

Hesky Park is a city park in Meredith. Hesky Park was donated to the city by Egon Hesky (owner of the linen industry) after Route 3 was built (around 1948). There are walking paths along the waterfront, picnic areas, and plenty of green space to relax. Hesky Park is also used for community events such as concerts in the summer.
