Bezienswaardigheden / tips Midtown 2026:

1) Midtown: Midtown is het commerciële hart van de stad, gelegen tussen 34th street en 59th street aan de West Side en tussen 40th street tot 59th street aan de East Side. In Midtown staan de meeste wolkenkrabbers en zijn de meeste hotels,restaurants en winkels te vinden. De meeste toeristen verblijven meestal ook in Midtown waardoor Midtown het drukste gedeelte van Manhattan New York is. In Midtown vind je heel veel bezienswaardigheden daarom beperk ik me alleen tot de hoogtepunten. 

2) Time Square: Time Square is het beroemdste kruispunt van New York. Times Square is met zijn 'bright lights' en hectische drukte het kloppend hart van New York. Het is genoemd naar de hier ooit gevestigde krant 'The New York Times'. Het is een bruisende plaats, waar Broadway tradities en moderne innovaties naast elkaar bestaan. Broadway is dichtbij, evenals 42nd Street met zijn theaters, grote bioscopen en Madame Tussaud. 

3) Broadway: Broadway loopt van Lower Manhattan tot voorbij het noordelijke puntje van Manhattan, maar het beroemde Broadway is het deel tussen West 53rd Street en West 40th Street en tussen Sixth Avenue en Eighth Avenue. De meeste theaters zitten niet aan Broadway zelf, maar in de zijstraten. 

4) TKTS Booth: Bij TKTS Booth kun je kaartjes kopen voor Broadway, Off-Broadway en dans-en muziekvoorstellingen voor de helft van de normale prijs. Kaarten zijn alleen verkrijgbaar op de dag van het optreden. Ga er vroeg naartoe, de rijen kunnen soms lang zijn. (47th street en Broadway, betaling alleen contant of travellercheques). Rond 18 uur is de rij korter. 

5) Bryant Park: Rust even uit in Bryant Park. Aan de rand van het park staan ronde huisjes waar je koffie en snacks kunt kopen. Kijk omhoog naar de hoge gebouwen van het centrum van New York. Aan de oostkant ligt een van de populairste onoverdekte bars van New York. In de zomer wordt elke maandagavond en openluchtfilm vertoond. (adres 42nd street en 6th avenue). 

6) The Empire State Building: Empire State Building is het resultaat van een wedstrijd tussen de voorzitters van General Motors en Chrysler over wie als eerste het hoogste gebouw ter wereld kon bouwen. Het gebouw heeft de vorm van een pen en werd in 1931 geopend. Vanaf de top heb je een prachtig uitzicht. (adres 5th avenue 350, tussen 33rd en 34th street). 

7) Grand Central Terminal: Als je Grand Central via de ingang aan 42nd Street bij Park Avenue betreedt, ervaar je direct de grandeur van de grote hal. Het gevoel van ruimte, de chique uitstraling en de drukte vormen de perfecte inleiding tot Manhattan. Met een $ 200 miljoen kostende renovatie kreeg het gebouw zijn grootsheid terug en is zelfs nu één van de meest indrukwekkende gebouwen van New York. Fraaie details zijn de 29 m hoge ramen, de vloer van tennesseemarmer, de koperen klok op de centrale kiosk en de kroonluchters van goud en nikkel. De New York Transit Museum Annex & Store is ook een bezoekje waard. Een netwerk van tunnels verbindt het station met de omringende straten; je kunt helemaal tot 48th Street en Park Street ondergronds blijven.

8) Fifth Avenue: Fifth Avenue is een chique winkelstraat en één van de beroemde straten van New York. Onder meer bevinden zich daar de kledingzaken Saks, Bendel, Fendi,Versace, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, en de juweliers Cartier, Tiffany en Bulgari. Wij combineren altijd fifth avenue (winkelen) met central park omdat op fifth avenue bij central park de bekendste winkels zitten zoals Abercrombie and Fitch, de Apple store en vele andere mooie winkels. Fifth Avenue is een lange winkelstraat en je kunt  fifth avenue aflopen tot aan 14th street tot daar is er genoeg aanbod van winkels maar dat is wel een afstand.  

9) Trump Tower: Onroerendgoedmagnaat Donald Trump bezit een aantal zeer kostbare gebouwen, waaronder de naar hemzelf genoemde Trump Tower. Bij de opening in 1983 waren de appartementen zeer gewild. Ze werden beschouwd als de ultieme belichaming van 'The American Dream'. Er zijn hier een paar winkels en eetgelegenheden die je kunt bezoeken. (5th avenue 725, in 56th street). 

10) Rockefeller Center: In 1928 pachtte multimiljonair en oliemagnaat John D. Rockefeller een stuk grond en noemde het Rockefeller Center. Hij bouwde er een complex van kantoorgebouwen en openbare wandelpromenades in art-decostijl. Leuk om in de winter te gaan schaatsen en de enorme kerstboom te bekijken die al in november opgetuigd wordt waarbij grote artiesten optreden, of in de zomer wat te drinken. Je kunt ook naar het dak van Top of the Rock, het uitzicht is net zo spectaculair als vanaf het Empire State Building. (5th avenue tot 7th avenue, van 47th tot 51st street, Top of the Rock ligt op Rockefeller Plaza 30). 

11) St. Patrick's Cathedral: De indrukwekkende St. Patrick's Cathedral uit 1879 is de grootste gotische kathedraal van de Verenigde Staten. Er passen meer dan 2.000 mensen in, goed voor jaarlijks meer dan 3 miljoen bezoekers. Let vooral op de Tiffany-altaren, het glas in lood en de piëta. (adres east 51st street 14, in 5th avenue). 

12) Macy's: Een van de bekendste warenhuis is Macy's. Macy’s is een hele grote warenhuis met diverse merk kleding, ga hier naar toe je kunt hier makkelijk een aantal uren vertoeven want Macy’s heeft 9 verdiepingen.  Als je naar de klanten service gaat en je paspoort laat zien kun je een 11% kortings kaart krijgen omdat je een toerist bent. Macy's is gevestigd op 151 West 34 th street.



Highlights / tips Midtown 2026: 

1) Midtown: Midtown is the commercial heart of the city, located between 34th street and 59th street on the West Side between 40th street to 59th street on the East Side. In Midtown are the most skyscrapers and the most hotels, restaurants and shops. Most tourists usually stay in Midtown making Midtown the busiest area of Manhattan New York. In Midtown you will find a lot of places of interest, so I will only limit myself to the highlights.

2) Time Square: Time Square is New York's most famous intersection. Times Square is the beating heart of New York with its bright lights and hectic bustle. It is named after the New York Times newspaper, which was once based here. It is a vibrant place where Broadway traditions and modern innovations coexist. Boradway is close by, as is 42nd Street with its theaters, major movie theaters and Madame Tussaud.

3) Broadway: Broadway runs from Lower Manhattan beyond the northern tip of Manhattan, but the famous Broadway is the section between West 53rd Street and West 40th Street and between Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue. Most theaters are not on Broadway itself, but in the side streets.

4) TKTS Booth: At TKTS Booth you can buy tickets to Broadway. Off-Broadway and dance and music performances for half the regular price. Tickets are only available on the day of the performance. Get there early, the lines can sometimes be very long. (47th street and Broadway, payment in cash or travelers cheques only). The line is shorter around 6pm. 

5) Bryant Park: Take a rest in Bryant Park. At the edge of the park are round houses where you can buy coffee and snacks. Look up at the tall buildings of downtown New York. On the east side is one of New York's most popular outdoor bars. In summer, an open-air movie is shown every Monday evening. (address 42nd street and 6th avenue). 

6) The Empire State Building: Empire State Building is the result of a competition between the presidents of General Motors and Chrysler to see who could be the first to build the tallest building in the world. The building is shaped like a pen and was opened in 1931. From the top you have a beautiful view. (address 5th avenue 350, between 33rd and 34th streets). 

7) Grand Central Terminal: If you are entering Grand Central through the 42nd Street entrance at Park Avenue, you immediately experience the grandeur of the great hall. The sense of space, chic look and bustle are the perfect introduction to Manhattan. With a $ 200 million renovation, the building regained its grandeur and is one of New York's most impressive buildings. Beautiful details are the 29 m high windows, the floor of Tennessee marble, the copper on the central kiosk and the chandeliers made of gold and nickel. The New York Transit Museum Annex & Store is also worth a visit. A network of tunnels connects the station to the surrounding streets; you can stay underground all the way to 48th Street and Park Street. 

8) Fifth Avenue: Fifth Avenue is a chic shopping street and one of the famous streets of New York. Among others, there are the clothing stores; Saks, Bendel, Fendi, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, and the jewelers Cartier, Tiffany and Bulgari. We always combine fifth avenue (shopping) with Central Park were the most famous shops such as Abercrombie and Fitch, the Apple store and many other beautiful shops are established. Fifth Avenue is a long shopping street were you can walk down Fifth Avenue to 14th Street, it is an enormous distance.

9) Trump Tower: Real Estate mogul Donald Trump owns some very precious buildings, including the Trump Tower named after himself. When the apartments were opened in 1983, they were very popular. They were considered the ultimate embodiment of 'The American Dream'. There are a few shops and restaurants that you can visit. (5th avenue 725, at 56th street).

10) Rockefeller Center: In 1928, multimillionaire oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller leased a piece of land and named it Rockefeller Center. He built a complex of office buildings and public pedestrian promenades in Art Deco style. Nice to go ice-skating in the winter and view the huge Christmas tree that is already decorated in November with major artists performing, or have a drink in the summer. You can also go to the roof of Top of the ock, the view is just as spectacular as from the Empire State Building. (5th avenue to 7th avenue, 47th to 51st street, Top of the Rock is located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza).  

11) St. Patrick's Cathedral: The impressive St. Patrick's Cathedral from 1879 is the largest Gothic cathedral in the United States. It can accommodate more than 2,000 people, accounting for more than 3 million annual visitors. Pay attention to the Tiffany altars, the stained glass and the Piëta. (address east 51 st street 14, at 5th avenue). 

12) Macy's: One of the most famous department store is Macy's. Macy's is a very large department store with various brand clothing, you can easily spend a few hours here due Macy's 9 floors. If you are a tourist, visit the customer services and show your passport were you can get an 11% discount card. Macy's is located at 151 West 34th Street.

Bryant Park is een park in Midtown Manhattan, tussen de wolkenkrabbers van Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue, 40th Street en 42nd Street. Het park is vernoemd naar de dichter William Cullen Bryant.

Times Square is een plein in de buurt van 42nd street en Broadway.  Het plein is het culturele centrum van New York. Het is er veilig, levendig en het is er erg druk met theaterbezoekers en toeristen.

Times Square is a major commercial intersection in the borough of Manhattan, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The extended Times Square area, also called the Theatre District, consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west.



Opvallende kenmerken van het plein Times Square zijn de elektronische billboards, waarvan er meer dan 50 hangen.

                           Normaal gesproken hangt hier de Time Square klok die elk jaar rond nieuwjaar aftelt.

                       Normally this is where the Time Square clock counts down every year around New Year's.    



W48th Street ook wel de Lou Walters Way genoemd is hernoemd naar de beroemde nachtclub Latin Quarter (latere ook bekend als The LQ). De club werd oorspronkelijk geopend in 1942 en had acts van grote namen. De geschiedenis is vergelijkbaar met die van zijn concurrent, de Copacabana.

W48th Street, also known as Lou Walters Way, has been renamed after the famous Latin Quarter nightclub (later also known as The LQ). The club originally opened in 1942 and featured big name acts. Its history is similar to that of its rival, the Copacabana.

Ter hoogte van 12th Avenue en W 46th Street ligt Pier 86 met zijn Intrepid Sea Museum. Het Museum is gevestigd op het vliegdekschip.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral staat aan Fifth Avenue ter hoogte van de 50th Street. De kathedraal is 110 m lang en 58 m breed. Het schip is 36 m hoog en 16 m breed. De twee spitse torens zijn ruim 100,5 m hoog. De voorzijde heeft drie bronzen deuren. De kathedraal wordt voornamelijk gebruikt voor huwelijken en andere evenementen.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral is on Fifth Avenue at 50th Street. The cathedral is 110 m long and 58 m wide. The ship is 36 m high and 16 m wide. The two spiers are spacious 100.5 m high. The front has three bronze doors. The cathedral is mainly used for weddings and other events.

Op Rockefeller Plaza bij het Rockefeller Center staat een gouden standbeeld van Prometheus. In de zomer staat hier een rollerskate baan en in de winter is hier een ijsbaan (zie film).
