Wijken 2026:
Manhattan: Manhattan is slechts één van de vijf stadsdelen waaruit New York City bestaat. De andere, soms de buitenste wijken genoemd, zijn de Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens en Staten Island. Manhattan is het langgerekte eiland ten zuid-westen van het vasteland; het is de kleinste wijk met een lengte van 22 km en een breedte van 3,5 km. Manhattan is grotendeels in een schaakbordpatroon aangelegd met genummerde straten. De uitzondering is Lower Manhattan, ten zuiden van 14th Street, dat al bestond toen het systeem werd ingevoerd. VERVOER / TRANSPORTATION
Vervoer in New York 2026:
1. Yellow Cab: Volg bij aankomst op de luchthaven altijd de borden TAXI en ga niet in op voorstellen van ronselaars die zelf taxidiensten aanbieden! Ze lichten je op en de tarieven liggen boven de 100 USD. Neem de officiële Yellow Cab! Er wordt een flat rate gehanteerd van $ 70,00 (exclusief 0,50 MTA staats toeslag, 0,30 verbeterings toeslag, 4,50 spitsuur toeslag, 2,50 New York staats toeslag, toll en fooi) naar elke bestemming in Manhattan. (Het is gebruikelijk om een fooi te geven van 10-15%). Dit tarief wordt ook gehanteerd voor ritten retour van Manhattan naar JFK Airport. De tarieven zijn anders naar andere wijken.
2. In de Lower East side en de East Village zijn weinig metrostations. Als u 's nachts in deze buurten bent, kunt u het beste een taxi nemen.

Haal de kaart er met de gestreepte zijde naar je toe door de lezer, in een beweging van voor naar achter. Bewaar je metrokaart op een plaats waar hij niet kan knikken. Bij de kleinste beschadiging kan de kaart dienst weigeren en werken de toegangspoortjes niet.
Transportation in New York 2026:

MANHATTAN:

Veel politiebureau's zijn de afgelopen 2 jaar gesloten. Het aantal daklozen is explosief gestegen. Dertien procent van alle daklozen in de Verenigde Staten woont in New York City. De daklozen zijn tegenwoordig over heel New York verspreidt ook op het rijke Manhattan. Central Park is overdag nog veilig maar tegenwoordig is Central Park in de avonduren gevaarlijk.
BROOKLYN:
Brownsville is een van de armste buurten van New York bijna 40 procent van de bevolking leeft onder de armoedegrens. Dit is al tientallen jaren zo ondanks de wetgevers geprobeerd hebben om anti-armoede programmas op te starten. Bijna de helft van 16 jaar en ouder hebben geen werk; duizenden zijn op zoek naar werk maar niet in staat om werk te vinden. Een constante stortvloed aan geweld karakteriseerd hun dagen. In 2014 waren er 72 schietpartijen en 15 moorden in een gebied dat zich uitstrekt over ongeveer twee vierkante mijl dat veel mensen nooit verlaten. Ondanks er verbeteringen zijn doorgevoerd kunnen de veiligheidsomstandigheden sterk variëren van blok tot blok, waardoor sommige delen van de buurt relatief veilig zijn, terwijl andere gedeeltes zorgwekend blijven. BRONX:
Hunts Point: Deze wijk in de Bronx is berucht vanwege prostitutie en andere vormen van criminaliteit. Degenen die niet op de hoogte zijn kunnen zich aangetrokken voelen tot deze wijk vanwege zijn geschiedenis en het aantal parken. Toch moet deze wijk vermeden worden als je hier niet woont.

BROOKLYN:
Brownsville is one of New York’s poorest neighborhoods, with nearly 40 percent of people living below the poverty line. It has been that way for decades, even as lawmakers tried one anti-poverty program after another. Nearly half of those 16 and older are not in the labor force; thousands more are looking for work and unable to find it. A steady barrage of violence punctuates their idle hours. There were 72 shootings last year and 15 murders — in an area spanning about two square miles that many people never leave. Although improvements have been made, safety conditions can vary greatly from block to block, making some parts of the neighborhood relatively safe while other parts remain of concern. There is nothing to find for a tourist in this section. If you stay in Brooklyn be carefull were you book your hotel.
Bedford-Stuyvesant - Bed-Stuy is not a hot spot for tourism, which makes it easy to avoid. This Brooklyn neighborhood has been ranked as one of the most dangerous areas of New York City due to its high numbers of murders and robberies. Factors that contribute to crime rates include historical poverty, gang activity, drug use, and illegal gun ownership.
BRONX:
Hunts Point: This Bronx neighborhood is notorious for prostitution and other types of crime. Those who are not in the know may be drawn to Hunts Point due to the area’s long history and the number of parks. However, Hunts Point should be mostly avoided by non-locals.
